Coming home

After sitting in the tropics for a few months, Thyme needed some cleaning underneath. Friends helped out, a great boat boy from the marina pleased with his efforts in the photo! and a friend with a spare tank - thanks everyone.

With a clean bottom and serviced engine, when can we head out for a sail? Watch this space...

Simon back!

Breaking news - Simon has moved back aboard Thyme!

It is hot right now, so number one priority was air con - thanks Riz!

After all his training as our home chef the last few years, a new oven was a top priority. Cant wait till I get there ;)

And of course the essential new espresso machine and finishing off a few projects to make it feel like home.

Fingers cross I will be joining him soon!

Learning to sail

Always great to teach kids to sail when they are young and Thyme is an awesome boat to learn on - its how I learned ;)

A little TLC

Time for a little bit of work in the aft bunk with a bit of a paint and tidy up and replacing the aft deck bench seat with new teak. Always nice to have the help of friends :)

Sailing in Port Moresby

Out with friends for a social sail around the harbour.

Thyme races 3 Peaks

 3 Peaks Race

This is a race a member modelled on a Scottish race and has been held annually at Royal Papua Yacht Club for many years since.

So how does it work - a swimmer / runner joins a boat in a team of two, as many sailors join the boat as can be taken and the race starts as a yacht race. Until the first island is reached, when the swimmer/runner dive off the boat and race to the top of the island and the swim back to the boat.

The yacht races to the next island where the swimmer/runners dive off again and dash for the peak before returning to swim to the boat.

The yacht then races back to the marina where it drops it swimmer/runners off for the final gruelling push to the top of Burns Peak and back to the Yacht Club to meet up with the sailing crew who are likely already having a cold one.

Here is Thyme racing, she had the fastest leg on the sail between island one and two this race, came 4th overall, 7 mins behind the winner on handicap. Such a fun event!

Royal Papua Yacht Club Racing

Thyme making her way around the course in Port Moresby at Royal Papua Yacht Club races. While not a racing yacht, she can hold her own and is beautiful to sail short handed. Call like, finish your crackers we are going to tack are not uncommon, hehehehe. Thyme is really comfortable, even in strong winds! The harbour in Moresby is perfect for racing with good SE trades and no swell.
